TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Dozens of members of Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) came to the office of Kompas Group editorial board in Jakarta on Thursday, June 16, 2016, in connection with the coverage of the raid on Saeni’s food stall by the Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) in Serang, Banten, last week.
“We will take a harder stance if the news gets in the way of the implementation of Islamic law,” said the Chairman of Islamic Law Implementation of FPI Awit Masyhuri in Kompas Group office.
Some twenty-ish police officers stood guard during the FPI visit. While the FPI itself was only sending 15 people. The FPI members were received by Deputy Editor-in-Chief Yogi Nugraha.
Awit considered the coverage of food stall raid during ramadan as a negative exposure and against the Islamic law. Earlier, FPI had sent a letter asking for direct explanation from Kompas about their intention in the framing of the coverage.
Awit said that his side were only expressing their objection without demanding any written statement to resolve it. According to him, Kompas would not let it happened again. “We will face anyone who are discrediting the Islamic law,” Awit said.
Spokesman of Kompas Gramedia, Widi Kristiawan, said that Kompas do need to be corrected by fellow citizens should they done anything wrong. With regard to Saeni’s case, he said that the coverage has had some effects. “We have no bad intentions,” he said.
