TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy Chief of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Basaria Pandjaitan said that her agency is considering having a review and cooperation with the Supreme Court (MA) to eradicate judicial mafia. Bribery cases have been ripe in judicial process, implicating judicial personnel.
“Prevention efforts cannot be done only by the KPK, [the KPK] has to cooperate with MA over steps to be taken instead,” Basaria told a press conference in her office, Thursday, June 16, 2016.
Basaria explained that every enforcement effort carried out by the KPK has been in accordance with their grand strategy. The KPK has always seek measures to prevent recurrence of corruption cases. “It’s called integrated enforcement.”
The KPK has named a clerk and two lawyers as suspects over a bribery case on Tuesday, June 16, 2016. They are lawyers Berta Natalia and Kasman Sangaji, as well as North Jakarta District Court clerk Rohadi. Another suspect is an employee of a private company Samsul Hidayatullah, the sibling of local celebrity Saipul Jamil.
Basaria went on that a Rp250 million bribe have allegedly been given by Berta, Kasman and Samsul to Rohadi. The bribe was given over Saipul Jamil’s case that is being processed by North Jakarta Court.
“Over sexual abuse in which public prosecutors seek 7-year term and Rp100 million fine. They [defense attorneys] wanted a reduced [sentence]. It’s [been reduced to] 3 years,” Basaria said. The article used against Saipul also stipulates lighter sentence compared to that of sought by the prosecutors.
