TEMPO.CO, Jakarta -Bambang Soesatyo, chairman of House of Representatives’ Commission III overseeing human rights, security and legal affairs, revealed that President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo sent a letter to the House saying that he has appointed National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) head Comr. Gen. Tito Karnavian as the single candidate of the National Police (Polri) chief.
Bambang said on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 that all factions at the House deliberative body (Bamus) will discuss the letter before “being brought to the plenary session.”
After being read, Bambang added, House Commission III will hold a plenary session and set the date for the fit and proper test. Bambang hopes that the whole process can be completed on June 28, before the Lebaran holiday.
Tito was inaugurated as the BNPT head in March, after serving as the Jakarta Police chief. Earlier reports said that strong candidates to replace Gen. Badrodin Haiti included three-star generals Comr. Gen. Budi Waseso or Comr. Gen. Budi Gunawan.
