Armored Police Brigade Dispose 26 Poso Bombs

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Brimob (Armored Police Brigade) bomb squad of Central Sulawesi Regional Police Department have disposed 26 homemade bombs which are evidences in the Camar Maleo 2015 Operation and Tinombala 2015 Operation that hunts down terrorists in Poso District.

Head of Public Relations of Central Sulawesi Regional Police Adj. Sr. Commissioner Hari Suprapto said Wednesday that the bombs and various types of explosives unveiled are not only findings from the authorities but also discoveries made by local residents during the operation.

The extermination of bombs were done by Brimob Headquarter Detachment B Landangan, Poso, around 11:30 a.m. Monday (local time) by an expert team and were done gradually to avoid massive explosion that could cause public tranquility in the surrounding area.

Authorities have also conducted socialization to local residents on the disposal plan so they would not be surprised and disturbed by it.

“We apologize if there are people who feel bothered by this activity,” said Hari.

The police are collaborating with the armed forces who continue to organize Tinombala Operation in Poso District to hunt Santoso, Mujahidin East Indonesia leader along with 23 followers who are still hiding in forests in the coastal area of Poso and Lore Plain.

The Police and Armed Forces have deployed 2,500 joint personnels in attempt to eradicate the group for they have committed a number of terror and radical acts as well as spreading radicalism in Poso.

Central Sulawesi Regional Police Department Chief Brigadier General Rudy Sufahriadi has asked Santoso and his followers to surrender themselve in order to stop the bloodshed.

If they surrender themselve, the police guarantee to treat them kindly throughout the legal proceedings.  Some of Santoso’s followers have been captured alive and surrendered to the authorities.
