TEMPO.CO, Kupang-A 3.9 Richter Scale (RS) earthquake jiggles the eastern Florest District, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province, at 10:58 p.m. local time, Sunday, June 12, 2016.
“The quake is not potential to tsunami, but people are advised to stay alert,” Head of Section for Data and Information the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency Station Geophyics Class 1 Kupang Sumawan said Sunday.
The earthquake was located at 7.98-degrees South Latitude and 123.18-degrees East Latitude, with the epicenter at 43km Northeast of Flores Island at a depth of 202km.
NTT is included in Indonesia’s tectonic system which is prone to earthquakes.
“So don’t be alarm if earthquakes often occur in Timor Island, Alor Island, Sumba, Flores, and other islands in NTT,” Sumawan said.
Officials also call on people to always stay alert for small quakes that constantly occur in NTT.
