TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II has said that Soekarno-Hatta Airport's Terminal 3 Ultimate infrastructure and airport management systems have been given the all-clear, and is ready to support the newly-expanded Terminal's operations.
"We have performed several trials, and we have concluded that the airport's supporting infrastructure and systems are ready for it to begin its' operations," said the Executive Director for PT Angkasa Pura II, Budi Karya Sumadi, after an internal test-run on Sunday, June 12, 2016.
Sunday's simulation, covered all aspects of the airport's functions - beginning with check-in process, the testing of the automated luggage handling system, as well as other facilities and aspects such as the escalators within the Terminal, as well as the passenger and hand-luggage security security screening.
Angkasa Pura II enlisted the help of 50 Solo-bound Garuda Indonesia passengers - which followed the entire check-in, screening, and boarding process from the check-in counters, all the way into the boarding lounge, prior to entering the aircraft.
Budi said that more simulations will be conducted ahead of the deadline for operations - which has been set on June 20, 2016. "Garuda Indonesia - as the main user of the Terminal, will actively participate in the simulation process, starting from tomorrow," he said.
It is known that Garuda Indonesia will begin operating out of the newly expanded Terminal 3 prior to the Eid-al Fitr holiday. "This will help us to more evenly distribute the number of passengers - which to date, has been piling up across Terminal 1 and Terminal 2," said Budi. "Hopefully, the existing Terminals would not be running over their capacity when the Homecoming season arrives."
According to Tempo's observation, the expansion of Terminal 3 Ultimate has yet to be fully completed. At several areas within the Terminal, workers can still be seen working on the finishing touches. Tenants have yet to move in, and several areas are still cordoned off by plywood. All lavatories within the Terminal building have yet to be opened, and are not currently functioning.
