TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Symposium to Protect Pancasila from the Threat of Communism and Other Ideologies has finally been opened in Balai Kartini, Jakarta, June 1, 2016. Former vice president of 1993-1998 period Try Sutrisno officially opened the symposium that is attended by 49 organizations.
In addition to opening the symposium, Try Sutrisno becomes the keynote speaker. In his speech, Try has reiterated that all sympathizers and former members of Indonesian Communist Party (PKI) and their descendants have been enjoying civil rights, namely political, economic, social and cultural rights. “Some of their descendants even work for the government,” Try said in Balai Kartini.
Try said that he is puzzled by the actions taken by the PKI sympathizers of late. According to him, there have been efforts to give a chance for the PKI revival with the organization of the National Symposium on the 1965 Tragedy. “The National Symposium has somewhat given the PKI a chance,” Try said.
The symposium will be held in two days. It will dissect the PKI from ideological and historical perspectives.
The event will be attended by the representatives of various mass organizations, among others, are Gerakan Gerakan Bela Negara PMKRI, PP Polisi, Pemuda Pancasila, Gerakan Pemuda Ansor, Forum Umat Islam, and Dapur Dai Nusantara.
