TEMPO.CO, Kupang-The Task Force of Indonesian Border Security with Timor Leste (Satgas Pamtas Indonesia-Timor Leste) in Belu District, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), will step up security measures and vigilance in the borders in the wake of political unrest in Dili, Timor Leste.
“I have emphasized to the personnel in security outposts to be more vigilant,” the Commander of Satgas Pamtas Indonesia-Timor Leste Lieutenant Colonel Nurman told reporters on Tuesday, May 31, 2016.
Recently, thousands of Timor Leste citizens in Dili staged a protest in relation to Australia’s control over Timor Sea.
Satgas Pamtas Indonesia-Timor Lesta has also step up patrols in the borders, from once a week to two times a week, according to Nurman. “After receiving reports about the unrest in Timor Leste, we have step up the security,” he said.
Nurman explained the increased security measures are carried out to anticipate Timor Leste citizens exodus to Indonesia. The security measures are also carried out in cooperation with Timor Leste authorities. “If an exodus occurs, they will inform it,” he said.
Nurman said that there has been no significant disturbance in the borders of the two countries. “[Situation on Indonesia-Timor Leste border] remains conducive,” he said.
