TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A number of National Economic and Industry Committee (KEIN) members visited Japan to study how the country builds small and medium industries in a bid to introduce domestic SMEs to the global market.
“This visit is aimed at learning more about the industrial development, including small and medium industries and small and medium enterprises for roadmap building,” KEIN member Johnny Darmawan told Antaranews.com in Jakarta on Monday, May 30, 2016.
President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has instructed KEIN to plan a roadmap for the national economy and industrial development, so the committee will conduct a comprehensive study on the issue, including to visit countries that have successfully built their industries, like Japan.
Johnny and several KEIN members, including Chairman Soetrisno Bachir, are now in Japan for a week. KEIN has been scheduled for meetings with the Japanese Business Federation Keidanren, the Japan Head of Chamber of Commerce, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), as well as visits to small-medium industries in the country.
“We hope that the government and the Japan association can help with or participate further in encouraging the establishment of a solid national industrial structure with competitive small-medium industries, agriculture and more efficient logistic systems,” Johnny Darmawan said.
