TEMPO.CO, Kupang-At least 500 cattle from islands of Sumba and Timor, East Nusa Tenggara, will be delivered to Jakarta by a livestock carrier dubbed Joko Widodo Camara Nusantara I.
“The cattle are ready to be quarantined, they are waiting for the ship to carry them to Jakarta,” said Buce Frans, the Director of PT Bumi Tirta, in Kupang on Monday, May 30, 2016.
PT Bumi Tirta has prepared a hundred cattle to be carried by Jokowi ship to meet demand for meat ahead of fasting month and Eid al-Fitr in Java, according to Buce. The cattle will be delivered early June 2016. “We are prepared to carry a hundred cattle once every 12 days.”
According to him, cattle with a live-weight of under 300 kilogram will be sold at Rp30 thousand per kilogram. Whereas those with a live-weight of above 300 kilogram will be sold at Rp34 thousand per kilogram.
PT Bumi Tirta supplies 500-600 live cattle to Jakarta a month. The supply is expected to reduce cattle imports.
