TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-The number of people who use motorcycle for homecoming is expected to rise up to 50 percent, or 5.6 million units of motorcycle, during 2016 Eid al-Fitr holiday compared to last year of 3.7 motorcycles.
Director General for Land Transport of Transportation Ministry, also Coordinator of Integrated Eid al-Fitr Transport 2016, Hartanto Iskandar told at a press conference on Friday that realization of motorcycle use had also risen in 2015 Eid al-Fitr by 48.82 percent compared to those of 2014.
“This year [we will] also see a 50 percent increase in motorcycle [use],” he said, May 27, 2016.
All in all, he went on, the use of private vehicles for homecoming is also expected to increase, including private cars.
Based on the data of expected vehicles used for homecoming of 2016 Eid al-Fitr holiday, the number of car used for homecoming will increase 4.5 percent to 2.4 million compared to 2015 Eid al-Fitr of 2.3 million cars.
The increase in private vehicle use in homecoming and the return of the homecoming of 2016 Eid al-Fitr is inversely proportional to expected passengers who will use public transport: down by 7.87 percent to 17.6 million passengers.
Meanwhile, the use of other transport modes tend to increase, such as ships that will rise 3.54 percent, train will increase 4.63 percent, and air transport to increase by 7.62 percent.
