TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla said that the government is committed to keeping the stability of prices of basic commodities before and during the Fasting Month this year until the Eid Day.

"The rising prices of commodities before Eid Day will always happen. Every year is always like that because everyone has the same urgent needs (those commodities),” Kalla said in Jakarta on Friday (27/5).

Nevertheless, he said that the government would maintain the smoothness of supply to stabilize prices.

"Prices depend on supply. If we have bigger supply, we will add. If we can’t we will import those commodities,” he added.

Kalla further said that the government will possibly import beef, while for supply of other commodities such as rice, egg and red onion is still safe.
