TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - According to the latest report from digital analytic company Web Similar, WhatsApp is the most popular app in the world. Accoring to the firm which analyzed data from a total of 187 countries, WhatsApp became a favorite in 109 countries, or 55.6 percent of those surveyed.
In some countries, Facebook-owned messaging service leads include Brazil, Mexico, India, Russia, and many other countries in South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, and Oceania.
Second place goes to Facebook Messenger, claiming a total of 49 countries including Australia, Canada, and the US.
Viber, Line, and WeChat rounded up the top five, with Telegram at six. Viber became the only app leads in 10 or more countries. Its popular in Eastern Europe, and leads the market in some countries like Belarus, Moldova, and Ukraine. Viber has been installed in 65 Android devices in Ukraine.
Only one country uses Blackberry’s BBM, which is Indonesia. BBM is popular in Indonesia with a market share of 87.5 percent, far from the 0.42 percent in the US.
Other apps in the category includes KakaoTalk, imo, Zalo and ChatOn, according to GSM Arena.
