TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Central Empowerment Affairs Department of Youth and Sports (PP PON), jointly with the At-Tawassuth foundation, has initiated a brief Islamic course for the youth to learn Islamic teaching in the upcoming fasting month of Ramadan.

The brief Islamic course, better known as the Pesantren Kilat, to be conducted in the Ramadan 1437 Hegira, is expected to be held on June 10 and 11, 2016, or 4th and 5th day of the Ramadan, an official stated on Thursday.

"The time of Ramadan should be spent learning about religion as it can motivate the youth to work better for the country, as they are a valuable asset and will inherit the country's leadership in the future," the political affairs staff of the Youth and Sports Ministry, Dr Yuni Purwanti, stated.

About 200 people, including students of colleges, senior high schools, non-governmental organizations, besides youth living in Greater Jakarta (Jabodetabek), are expected to participate in the Pesantren Kilat, the official pointed out.

Apart from that, the Educational Affairs Office of the Riau Islands Provincial District of Karimun, has instructed all Muslim students in the region to participate in the Pesantren Kilat.

The secretary to the Educational Office chief of the Karimum District, Bakri Hasyim, had informed on Wednesday that Pesantren Kilat will be held for four days in different schools of the region.
