Indonesia Wins `UNESCO Prize for Girls and Women`s Education`

TEMPO.CO, London - Indonesia and Zimbabwe have won the first ‘UNESCO Prize for Girls’ and Women’s Education’ given by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization and funded by the Chinese government.

Indonesian Ambassador/Deputy Permanent Representative to UNESCO, T.A. Fauzi Soelaiman told Antara news agency that Indonesia is proud to have received the award after the hard work carried out by the Directorate for Early Childhood Education Program (PAUD) lead by Director Ella Yulaelawati.

He said that Indonesia has won three awards from UNESCO, namely UNESCO King Sejong Literacy Prize on September 26, 2012, UNESCO-Japan Prize on Education for Sustainable Development on November 4, 2015, and UNESCO Prize for Girls’ and Women’s Education. The office of the Permanent Delegation of the Republic of Indonesia to UNESCO has always notified Indonesia on the call for nomination of UNESCO awards through Foreign Affairs Ministry, Education and Culture Ministry and the Indonesian National Commission for UNESCO (KINU) in Jakarta.

“With good teamwork, the last two prizes have been won by Indonesia within the last two years,” Fauzi said.
