TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Secretary Cabinet Pramono Anung has confirmed the rumor that the Indonesian and Japanese government is amid exploring a collaboration for a train and infrastructure project.
“The Japanese government has expressed its desire for two things. One is for Patimban Harbor in Subang and the other is train,” Pramono told reporters in Halim Perdana Kusuma Airport after President Joko Widodo departed to Japan on Thursday, May 26.
Pramono say the project is not a project similar to the Jakarta-Bandung train funded by the Chinese. Contrary, the project currently being explored is a medium-speed train. Later, the cooperation will include supporting infrastructure such as railroads.
This collaboration will be discussed during President Jokowi’s visit to Japan, said Pramono. Jokowi will attend the G-7 event in Nagoya, Japan, today and tomorrow.
“There will be a bilateral agenda between President Jokowi and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe,” he said.
Pramono claim he does not know the value of the project in detail, but it aims to speed up travel time from Jakarta-Surabaya.
Japanese media, Nikkei, reported that the development cost is estimated to reach $1.81 billion or Rp 24.43 trillion. The figure is lower than the Jakarta-Bandung train project reaching $5.1 billion or Rp 68 trillion.
