TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Agriculture Minister Amran Sulaiman believes that shallot import is not necessary because current production is sufficient and the prices in a number of market have declined.
“I will not issue the permit to import shallot because we still have a surplus,” Amran said on Tuesday in Jakarta.
According to him, current shallot prices are between Rp16,000 and Rp20,000 per kilogram in a number of markets, such as Kramat Jati Central Market, Jakarta.
Therefore, Amran expects the media to not only report the hike in shallot prices, but also its price drop.
Amran considers that any increase in shallot prices in any region would probably caused by distribution issues.
