TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) took off from Halim International Airport, Jakarta, to Nagoya, Japan, to attend the G-7 Outreach meeting.
President Communication Team Ari Dwipayana said in Jakarta on Thursday that the purpose of the visit is to fulfill an invitation from Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
“In Japan, the President will attend the G-7 Outreach Summit organized on Friday May 27 2016 in Ise-Shima, which is located two hours from Nagoya, said Ari.
The meeting will discuss issues including the stability and welfare of Asia, as well as sustainable development, women empowerment, and global health.
President Jokowi is asked to be the main speaker in the discussion on Asia’s stability and welfare in the meeting with member countries of the G-7, including United States, England, France, Germany, Italy and Japan.
In the discussion for sustainable development, women empowerment, and global health issues, Indonesia will emphasize the importance of global partnership, as well as increasing global health coverage in Indonesia.
Besides attending the G-7 Outreach session, Jokowi will is also scheduled to meet with the President of France, President of Sri Lanka, and Japanese Prime Minister during his visit to the country.
The president expect Indonesia’s presence in the G-7 Outreach meeting could be useful to improving international cooperation.
State Secretary Pratikno, National Development & Planning Minister Sofyan Djalil, and Chairman of the Board of Commissioner for Financial Service Authority Muliaman Hadad accompanied the President and First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo to Japan.
The President along with his entourage are scheduled to return to Indonesia on May 27.
