TEMPO.CO, Makassar-Head of Trade and Industry Office of South Sulawesi Province Hadi Basalamah said beef prices does not experience a significant increase in South Sulawesi ahead of fasting month and he claimed that the market price is relatively cheaper and stable compared to prices in other provinces.
“Beef price is still under control and did not experience a surge,” Hadi told Tempo on Wednesday, May 26, 2016.
The rate still ranges around Rp90,000 per-kilogram. Hadi ensures that beef price will not increase in 24 districts and cities in South Sulawesi.
Hadi said beef stock is considered sufficient, so the availability of beef in South Sulawesi is guaranteed to be adequate for Eid and until the next six months. “Meat stock reaches 7,930 tons,” he said.
A price surge often occurs when beef supply is low while the demand is relatively high. According to a butcher in Pa'baengbaeng market in Makassar, the demand for beef did not rise in the past week.
