TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Papua Provincial Government plans to improve local regulation on the banning of the distribution, production, and selling of alcoholic beverages in the region.
Papua Province Regional Secretry Hery Dosinaen said in Jayapura on Monday, May 23, that local regulation on alcoholic beverages will not be revoked, but improved instead.
“The improvement here refers to Article 9 of the local regulation, there’s an edition that must be eliminated,” Hery said.
Hery said he will strengthen the regulation where all types of beverages will be prohibited, including the drinks with alcohol content below 5 percent.
“The revision and improvement of local regulation on alcoholic beverages associated with the alcohol content in the beverages,” he said.
The department has agreed that beverages with alcohol content below 5 percent and all its category groups will remain prohibited in Papua.
“So whether it’s a local drink or any drink with alcohol content below 5 percent will be banned and eliminated from Papua,” said Hery.
The policy is imposed to that all types of alcoholic beverages in Papua Province.
However, Home Affairs Minister Tjahja Kumolo has clarified the local regulation that was been revoked is the one against the existing provision and regulation.
