TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - La Nyalla Matalitti, previously named as a suspect of a corruption case surrounding the East Java Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), has won another pretrial. However, La Nyalla’s victory does not discourage the East Java High Court.
Head of East Java High Court Maruli Hutagalung said that there was another way to continue the case on La Nyalla.
“The one cancelled is the new investigation warrant, the special one. The old warrant still exists. That’s our way in,” Maruli told Tempo on Monday, May 23, 2016.
La Nyalla earlier was named as a suspect for allegedly receiving a graft money of Rp 5.3 billion in 2012, and laundering a grant money of Rp 1.3 billion at the same institution in 2011. Before he was arrested by the East Java High Court, La Nyalla fled to Singapore and has not been touched to this date.
During a pretrial held on Monday, May 23, 2016, Judge Mangapul Girsang ruled that the establishment of La Nyalla as suspect by the East Java High Court was invalid. The judge also requested that the ban on La Nyalla’s bank account should be revoked.
Maruli said that the previous investigation warrant was issued to expose two convicted Chamber of Commerce and Industry officials; namely Diar Kusuma Putra, Kadin’s deputy head for the Inter-provincial Trade Cooperation, and Nelson Sembiring, Kadin’s deputy head of energy and mineral resource sector.
According to Maruli, the old investigation warrant can still be developed to start a case with La Nyalla for the crimes he had committed with Diar and Nelson. That warrant has never been canceled by the court.
Maruli added that another plan was to issue a new investigation warrant. However, Maruli refused reveal the issuance date of the new warrant.
In response to a question whether he would bring La Nyalla’s case to the Corruption Court, Maruli expressed optimism, and said that he would not be afraid of facing numerous pretrial motions.
