TEMPO.CO, Kunshan - The Indonesian team has advanced to the final round in the Thomas Cup 2016 after the mens double team of Angga Pratama and Ricky Karanda Suwardi defeated the South Korean pair in the semifinal at the Kunshan stadium on Friday.

Angga Pratama and Ricky Karanda Suwardi beat South Koreas Kim Gi Jung and Kim Sa Rang 21-15, 21-18 in a match that ran for 39 minutes.

Indonesian team beat the South Korean team 3-1, grabbing one point from mens single and two from mens double.

Indonesia`s Jonatan Christie playing in the semi final round of first mens single lost to South Korean Son Wan Ho 10-21, 15-21 in a game that lasted 37 minutes.

But the country`s men double pair of Hendra Setiawan and Mohammad Ahsan successfully defeated South Koreas Lee Yong Dae and Yoo Yeon Seong in two games with a score of 21-15, 21-12 in 34 minutes.

The Indonesian team won 2-1 over its South Korean counterpart after Anthony Sinisuka Ginting crushed in the second mens single South Koreas Lee Dong Keun 21-18, 21-18 in 51 minutes.

At this semifinal match, manager of the Indonesian team of Thomas and Uber Rexy Mainaky did not field Tommy Sugiarto as the key player in the mens single.

Earlier, however, the Indonesias Uber Cup 2016 team failed to proceed to the semi-final round after its progress was halted by the South Korean team on Thursday.

Females singles player, Fitriani, who played in the third match, was defeated by Bae Yeon Ju in a rubber game 13-21, 21-14, 15-21.

The Indonesian team was eliminated because it had lost the previous two matches.

In the first women`s singles match, Maria Febe Kusumastuti lost to Sung Ji Hyun 13-21, 12-21 while in the second match, Greysia Polii pairing with Anggia Shitta Awanda surrendered to Jung Kyung Eun and Shin Seung Chan 13-21, 19-21 in the womens double event.

"Younger players in our team need to be more courageous and have more self-confidence. Their combative spirit must be boosted," Greysia, the captain of the team, said.

Greysia explained that pressure in the group tournament was stronger than in the individual event.

"Players with standard capabilities in the individual event could improve when playing in the group event and the other way round," she added.

Greysia`s pairing with Nitya Krishinda Maheswati was ranked second in the world during the womens double event.
