TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - National Development Planning Minister Sofyan Djalil said that the government has 119 targets that match the 169 targets set in the sustainable development goals/SDGs for 2030. He is confident that Indonesia is ready to implement the SDGs this year.

"I believe that Indonesia is ready because [the targets] are in line with the Mid-term National Development Plan for 2015-2019," Sofyan said on Monday, May 16.

Sofyan said that in social fields the government aims to reduce poverty rate to 7-8 percent and raise the level of people's access to drinking water and sanitation to 100 percent. The government also targets to reduce infant mortality rate to 24 deaths per 1,000 births and the maternal mortality rate to 306 per 100,000 births.

Health facilities are targeted to increase to 85 percent and health insurance coverage to 100 percent. The government also aims to increase the high school education participation to 91.63 percent.

In the economic field, the government targets to increase the GDP per capita to Rp 72.2 million, reduce open unemployment rate to 4-5 percent, create 10 million new jobs, and lower the Gini index to 0.36.

In the field of the environment, he said, the government is targeting to increase production and consumption rate in priority sectors, reduce carbon dioxide emissions to 26 percent, and restore damaged ecosystems.

Finance Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro said that sharia financial instruments can help the nation achieve sustainable development goals. Many aspects of the SDGs, he said, is consistent with the principles of Islamic finance, such as inclusive society, fairness, cooperation, and equality for all parties.
