TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-Three state-owned companies Angkasa Pura II, Wijaya Karya, and Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN) will jointly build a gas power plant with 60-megawatts capacity at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Tangerang. The project's investment is estimated to worth Rp1 trillion.
"That's just the rough estimate," Angkasa Pura II director Budi Karya Sumadi said at the State-Owned Enterprises Ministry building yesterday, May 11, 2016.
According to Budi, the demand for electricity at Soekarno-Hatta airport now is around 60 MW. That demand will increase to 100 MW once the airport's Terminal 3 operates.
"And by the time the cargo village is completed, the airport could need 150 MW," he said.
Right now, the airport gets all of its electricity supplies from stste power company PT PLN. The airport pays some Rp400 billion each year for electricity.
Once the power plant operates, the airports can cut back on operating expenses. "[The airport] can save some money and only pay around Rp160 billion for the PLN bill. That Rp240 billion can be used to pay for our own investment," he said.
To construct of the power plant, Budi said, Angkasa Pura II has prepared a land area of 5 hectares. The site is located approximately 7 kilometers from the airport.
