TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Mat Syukur, expert staff of agriculture innovation and technology with the Agriculture Ministry, said that his institution would provide oil palm, sugar cane and cassava seeds to support the energy sovereignty program.
Mat Syukur added that the Ministry had prepared raw materials, such as oil palm for biodiesel, and sugar cane and cassava for bioethanol, and coordinated with relevant institutions.
“The Agriculture Ministry is setting up coordination with other ministries or agencies in preparing roadmaps for plants to be prioritized as biofuel materials,” Mat Syukur said in a press release as quoted by Bisnis.com on Friday, May 6, 2016.
Mat Syukur revealed that the Ministry would also conduct researches to create superior oil palm varieties to improve productivity, oil content and efficiency. In addition, the Ministry would develop biofuel crops that were not competitors of food plants.
The Ministry has called for utilization of biofuel-producing waste, such as oil palm shells, hays, brans, corns and other waste in a bid to realize a sustainable agriculture.
