TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A 5.3-magnitude earthquake has struck Tanggamus, Lampung on Friday. The earthquake had no potential to trigger a tsunami, it also did not damage buildings nor caused casualties.
The earthquake occurred at 9:40 a.m. 132 kilometers off southwestern Tanggamus, Lampung at 10 kilometer depth. “The earthquake’s epicenter was in the Indian Ocean and it has no potential to cause a tsunami,” said Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, Data and Information Chief of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB). The earthquake was felt for five seconds at Tanggamus District which has 536 thousand residents.
“The earthquake did not cause any casualty nor damage any building,” he said. The southern Tenggamus District is bordered immediately by the Indian Ocean yet the region’s topography is partly hilly and mountainous.
