TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Digdoyo Djamaluddin, chairman of the Probolinggo branch of the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI), revealed on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 that tourists had booked 75 percent of hotel rooms in Bromo to spend the long holiday this week.
Digdoyo added that most of the hotel rooms booked by the tourists were rooms for three with prices ranging from Rp 600,000 (US$45.5) to Rp 1.2 million (US$91) per day. Digdoyo explained that most of the tourists would be travelling with their families.
“We had to refuse guests because the standard rooms are fully booked,” Digdoyo added.
However, Digdoyo said that hotels had recommended homestays for tourists who wanted rooms for three.
“Hotel owners have coordinated with homestay owners in Bromo. Therefore, those who don’t get hotel rooms are suggested to contact homestays recommended by hotels,” Digdoyo explained.
Digdoyo added that the increasing number of visitors in Bromo had affected vehicle services taking tourist to explore Bromo.
“The normal tariff is Rp 450,000 (US$34). But during a long holiday the tariffs range from Rp 600,000 (US$45.5) to Rp 700,000 (US$53),” Digdoyo said, adding that a vehicle could take up to six passengers.
Mount Bromo’s status is currently set at level 2 or caution. Local people and tourists in Bromo are restricted from entering an area within 1 kilometer radius from the active crater.
