TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s men’s singles will anticipate possible situations which could suddenly appear in Thomas Cup final round in Kunshan, China, April 15 to May 22, 2016.
“We will prepare the athletes with three things: mental, physical and patterns of play ahead of Thomas Cup finals,” said Hendri Saputra, Head Coach of Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) Men’s Singles Training Camp on Wednesday after a training session with his players in Cipayung, Jakarta.
Hendri said three PBSI men’s players Jonatan Christie, Ihsan Maulana Mustofa and Anthony Ginting have been working on their patterns of play or strategy to anticipate possible challenges on the court.
“For example, [we anticipate] if the shuttlecocks used in Thomas Cup finals are slower than of those used in training. Meaning that players should be ready to play long rally,” he said.
Three Indonesia’s opponents in the Thomas Cup finals: Hong Kong, India and Thailand are countries with similar quality in men’s singles.
“We should never be caught off guard when playing against the three countries. But I’m still optimistic that my players [will come out triumphant] because they have had experience in the qualifying tournament for Thomas Cup in India,” he said.
