TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-Industry Minister Saleh Husin called on industrial sectors to conduct energy conservation and efficiency by 40 percent.

“The target can be realized by restructuring industrial machinery, setting standards for green industries, setting standards of energy intensity, and implementing energy management in energy-intensive industries,” Saleh said in a press release on Wednesday night May 4, 2016.

Included in energy-intensive industries are cement, steel, fertilizer and petrochemical, pulp and paper, ceramic, textile, and food and beverage.

Saleh revealed that he had sent Industry Minister letter No. 524 on November 17, 2015 to the Energy and Mineral Resources Minister proposing new prices for natural gas as raw material and energy source for industries. According to Saleh, to meet demands on gas for industries, the gas prices in West Java and East Java was proposed to be set at US$7.8 per MMBTU, and US$8.9 per MMBTU in North Sumatera.

In addition, the gas price for the fertilizer industry in Bintuni Bay, West Papua, was proposed to be set at US$5 per MMBTU.

Earlier, Saleh attended the 17th National Energy Council’s plenary session with Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Sudirman Said and Environment and Forestry Minister Siti Nurbaya. Accompanying Saleh during the plenary session was director general for metal, machinery, transportation mode and electronics industries I Gusti Putu Suryawirawan, expert staff for Industrial Resourcers Winarni Poedjiwati and director of metal industries Budi Irmawan.
