Seven Convicted Murderers of Yuyun Could Face 10 Years in Jail

TEMPO.CO, Bengkulu - The murder case of Yuyun, 14, student of Padang Ulak Tanding Junior High, Rejanglebong District, Bengkulu, has been brought to trial. Public prosecutor Arlya Noviana Adam yesterday read the charge against seven of the 12 convicted murderers at Curup District Court. “We are seeking 10-year sentence [each],” Eko Hening Wardoyo, Curup High Court Chief Justice, told Tempo.
The seven minor perpetrators are De (18), Da (17), Fs (18), Su (18), Al (17), So (16) and Ek (16). They are charged with violating Article 81 paragraph 1 of Child Protection Law (UUPA), in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph I to I in conjunction with Article 65 paragraph 1 and 2 of the Criminal Code (KUHP), also Article 80 paragraph 3 of Child Protection Law. The trial was presided by chief judge Heny. The trial will continue today to read the defense.
Of the 12 suspects, seven have been brought to court. Other perpetrators are still waiting for the process of completion of dossier which will soon be submitted to the court, according to Eko. The five suspects are Tomi Wijaya (19), Suket (19), Bobi (20), Faisal (19) and Zainal (23). While the other two perpetrators have yet to be caught. “The search is ongoing,” said Padang Ulak Tanding Police Precinct Chief First Inspector Eka Candra.
The rape and murder case of Yuyun by 14 suspects took place on April 2. Perpetrators stopped the victim who were walking by herself towards her house at the corner of the village, not far from a rubber plantation. Yuyun’s body were found at a 5 meter high cliff near a forest of Kasie Kasubun Village, Padang Ulak Tanding.
Eka said the perpetrators and the victim knew each other since they shared the same village. Based on the confessions of the perpetrators, however, the incident happened spontaneously-not premeditated, Eka said. “The incident was initiated by De. He is the mastermind, so to speak.”
