Kadin Bali Orders ITS` Electric Bus for Tourist Transportation

TEMPO.CO, Surabaya-Indonesian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) of Bali plans to order electric bus created by students of Sepuluh Nopember Technology Institute (ITS) Surabaya. The electric bus will be used by the Indonesia Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) to serve passangers traveling around the tourism destinations in Nusa Dua, Bali.

“Kadin Bali wishes to develop enviro-firendly tourist transportation,” said Chief of Kadin Bali A.A.N. Alit Wiraputra at ITS Research Center and Ship Design building Tuesday, May 3, 2016.

He viewed that it is Important for Bali to develop environment-friendly tour since the tourists coming to the world-famous island have high concern over the environtmental issue. It seems from the efforts of several countries that lowering the number of the tourist visiting Bali due to its poor management of environemental hygiene.

“German and Japan reduce their visits to Bali because they cannot stand seeing Bali that hasn’t able to handle the extremely piled-up trashes,” he said, adding that the bad wastewater management has made tourists from several countries’ trusts stepping down.

Therefore, Kadin Bali starts to promote green tourism by operating enviro-friendly electric bus. They will firstly created electric bus prototype which then will be produced massively just like electric matic scooter Gesits.

As the initial step, all the vehicles operated in touristry sites such as Nusa Dua and Kuta Beach should be powered with electric engine. “It must be started at the beginning of 2017. We will order at least 100 buses,” Alit said.

The purchase of 20 people capacity electric bus will need some Rp30 billion investment. “We’re proposing this project to the government but it will be started by private business doers who want to use it,” he said.
