TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Dr. I Gusti Ayu Nyoman Partiwi admitted of being furious when she saw a toddler playing with smartphones or tablets. "Gadgets are toxic for babies," Ayu said as quoted by Koran Tempo on Tuesday, May 3, 2016.
Ayu claimed she had often handled cases where children experienced late development because of gadgets. "If there was a child that was initially clam, and three months later the child cannot stand being calm, it must be because of gadgets," Ayu said.
Ayu explained that gadgets and television affect eight out of nine child development aspects, namely sensory, motor, communication, creativity, independency, social-emotional, cooperation, and moral-spiritual aspect.
Ayu added that any skills developed by a child when he/she was using a gadget will be limited to cognitive skills because the child feels comfortable with what he/she saw" and feels unnecessary to develop other skills, such as motor skills.
Ayu added that gadget skips the stage where children should experienced stimulants from his/her surroundings and environment.
