TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Environment and Forestry Minister Siti Nurbaya asserted that the Jakarta Bay reclamation project has caused damage to the ecosystem of the 'Taman Wisata Alam' (Nature Tourism Park) in Muara Angke.
"Many wildlife [in the park] were affected," Siti said while visiting the C and D island of the reclamation project on Wednesday, May 4, 2016.
Siti said the damages occurred because the reclamation was carried out without proper studies. Siti added that the developers have violated laws and regulations for proceeding with the project without applying for environmental analysis from several ministries.
Siti admitted that she has not made any calculation on the damages or collect any information on the wildlife affected by the project. Based on the Environment and Forestry Ministry Data, the project has began to affect the lives of Elang Bondol (Haliastrus Indus) living in the tourism park area.
Not only the Nature Tourism Park, Siti also highlighted the damages the project has caused to underwater ecosystem along the North Jakarta coastline. The project also caused difficulties for fishermen wishing to go out to sea.
