TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Ken Dwijugiasteadi, Director General of Tax at the Finance Ministry denied any statements claiming that the tax amnesty policy does not intend to give waiver for tax evaders.
"[Tax amnesty] is a self assessment system, [taxpayers] fill out the forms by themselves. So nobody is evading any taxes," Ken said on Tuesday, May 3, 2016.
Ken said that there is nothing special about tax amnesty because it basically provides lesser tariffs for any taxpayers who wanted to revise his/her tax return. "The tax amnesty will apply special tariffs, which will be discussed with the House of Representatives later," Ken said.
Ken added that tax amnesty is important to improve taxpayers compliance in reporting their tax return. "Data transparency is important for the Directorate General of Tax. Therefore, let us report [our tax return]," Ken said.
Ken hoped that the repatriation of Indonesian funds from overseas, which can be used to make investments, can help in increasing labor absorption.
