TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Financial Services Authority (OJK) will have 16 banks to disburse Rp 9.2 trillion worth of credits to the marine and fisheries sub-sectors through its 'Jaring' program this year. The target represents a 24.2-percent increase from last year's disbursement amount of Rp6.69 trillion

'Jaring' is short for Jangkau (reach), Sinergi (synergy) and Guideline. It is a program designed to increase credit and financing in the marine and fisheries sector, and to help people working in the sector to have a better reach to financial services.

In 2015, the program managed to disburse Rp 6.69 trillion, which exceeded the initial target of Rp 5.37 trillion by 124.5 percent.

OJK chief Muliaman D. Hadad said the program is aimed at increasing the knowledge of people in the financial service industry about the marine and fisheries sector, so that the sector will obtain higher bank loans and financing.

"The OJK will continue to push the financial services industry to increase their financing portion in the marine and fisheries sector, which has large benefits for the national economy and can improve the people's welfare," Muliaman said on Monday, May 2, 2016.

Since the Jaring program was launched, 16 banks have participated as the OJK's partners. The first eight banks that joined the program are BNI, BRI, Bank Mandiri, BTPN, Bank Danamon, Bank Permata, Bank Bukopin, and the Regional Bank of South and West Sulawesi (BPD Sulselbar).

Since then, eight more banks joined: CIMB Niaga; Maybank Indonesia; BCA; Bank Sinarmas; and four Regional Banks (BPD) from East Java, Riau Islands, North Sulawesi, and Central Java.

Non-bank financial institutions are also participating in the Jaring program through the Consortium of Financing Company, Life Insurers, General Insurers and Guarantee Corporations, as well as Perum Jamkrindo and Jamkrida.
