TEMPO.CO, Beijing - As many as 1,000 Indonesian migrant workers in Hong Kong staged a rally at Victoria field, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong to commemorate the International Labor Day.
They began their action by demanding the rights as Indonesian migrant workers to the Indonesian government, which is in this case is represented by Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong, as well as to the Hong Kong authority.
The migrant workers also asked the government to save the workers who become the victims of passport fraud from criminalization and deportation.
They also demanded the government to allow them to create an independent contract, to revoke Law Number 39 of 2004 on the placement and protection of Indonesian migrant workers and to provide job opportunities at home.
Based on the data from the Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong, the number of Indonesian migrant workers in Hong Kong until July 20115 was recorded at 150.544 people, the second biggest group after Filipino migrant workers, which amounts to 177.890 people
