TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Giant tech company Microsoft and Indonesian prominent media publisher Tempo Media Group will hold a hackathon for programmers and developers on May 26, 2016. The event will be held as a part of annual Microsoft Developers Festival at Ritz Carlton Hotel, Pacific Place, Jakarta.

Koran Tempo editor in chief Daru Priyamboo said that the hackathon event was aimed at inviting developers, programmers and digital technology enthusiasts to jointly create a new format for digital media in the future.

“Almost all mass media aspects are experiencing digital disruption. The work and distribution patterns, as well as the media business model must be redefined. Programmers are invited to share their ideas,” Daru said on Friday, April 29, 2016.

The hackathon would feature eight topics related to digital media aspects, namely breaking news, multimedia, social media, user experience, business model, big data and public goods. Further details about the eight topics can be found on http://hackathon.tempo.co.

Tempo will provide eight journalists and business managers to serve as discussion partners for hackathon participants, so that app and website prototypes designed in the competition can answer challenges posed by digital media issues.

“The opportunity to work with programmers in the hackathon will be interesting, because the journalism-digital technology collaboration is one of the main features of digital media,” Tempo editor Anton Septian said.

The registration form can be submitted via http://hackathon.tempo.co. The hackathon organizing committee will announce teams who pass the selection along with issues to be solved on May 10, 2016. On Sunday, May 15, 2016, representatives of each team will attend a briefing and meet-up at the Communications and Information Ministry in Central Jakarta.

Tempo and Microsoft would pick a winner in each eight categories, so that there will be eight winners of the competition. The winners will have an opportunity to participate in Microsoft’s Technopreneurship program. In addition, Tempo Media Group will incubate products of the winners that will be used by Tempo in the future. The winners will also enjoy free services offered by all Tempo’s digital products and have the opportunity to participate in Tempo Institute’s journalism program for free.

The registration will be closed on May 10, 2016.
