TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - In a bit to attract more stock brokers and traders can buy and/or sell stocks, bonds, and other securities, the Indonesia Stock Exchange (ISE) is set open a branch office in Surabaya, East Java in June thus year.
“We will open a big branch office in Jakarta, especially intended the IPO (Initial Public Offering) so those brokers and traders can only come to Jakarta and do not have to come to Jakarta,” said ISE President Director Tito Sulistio in Surabaya on Friday (29/4).
Tito said that the Surabaya Stock Exchange was first establish in 1989 but on 1 December 2007, it was merged with the Jakarta Stock Exchange, which has become the Indonesia Stock Exchange now.
He added economic growth in East Java and East Indonesia becomes a consideration to open a branch in Surabaya. He also said that the move could also attract more brokers and traders there.
Tito was also optimistic the branch could attract more brokers and traders because East Java’s economy is the second biggest economy in Indonesia after Jakarta.
“The potentials there are huge,” Tito said.
