TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia and Malaysia are planning to embark on cooperation in the fisheries sector.
The cooperation is expected to address problems faced by fishermen from the two countries and the plan to conduct a joint patrol to eradicate illegal fishing.
"The Malaysian Fisheries Minister and I had a talk and we hope there will be no fiction between the two countries,” said Indonesian Fisheries and Maritime Affairs Minister Kami Susi Pudjiastuti after receiving Malaysian Agriculture Minister Dato Sri Ahmad Shabery Cheek in Jakarta on Friday (29/4).
Susi added that the two countries are also planning to sign memorandum of understandings on several issues including exchange of satellite and radar data.
As for the plan to conduct the joint patrol, Susi said that the Maritime Security Board (Bakamla) or the Supervision of Fisheries and Maritime Resources Unit of the Fisheries and Maritime Affairs Ministry with conduct the patrol with the Malaysian authority.
