TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-The Indonesian Embassy in Wellington promoted Indonesian coffee in New Zealand through a “Coffee Talk and Coffee Cupping” program held on Thursday, April 28, 2016, in Wellington.
Java Arabica coffee from Mount Ijen Banyuwangi, East Java, was displayed in the event as said in the embassy’s press release posted in the Foreign Ministry’s official website in Jakarta on Friday, April 29, 2016.
The promotion done by the embassy was very satisfying, considering that Wellington is one of the cities in the world that has the highest number of coffee shops.
“The presence of Ijen Coffee enriches coffee variation served in coffee shops in Wellington which is known as the capital city of coffee,” said Indonesian Ambassador for New Zealand Jose Tavares.
“It is known that New Zealand has a high standard in selecting coffee as the coffee producers always search for special characteristic coffees,” he said, adding that Indonesia is very lucky and potential as it has various coffees originating from Aceh to Papua.
Several entrepreneurs from various coffee companies in Wellington came to listen to the explanation about Ijen Java Arabica coffeee conveyed by Adnan Assegaf from Djava Kopi. They also have the chance to taste Ijen coffee flavors during the coffee cupping session.
A documentary on the beauty of Mount Ijen was also shown.
The promotion is expected to increase Indonesia’s export to New Zealand. In 2015, coffee export to New Zealand reached averagely 60 tons per-month and coffee demands in the country keeps rising; giving Indonesia an opportunity to increase its coffee export.
