TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia, Tbk has recorded profit after tax during the first quarter of 2016 of Rp6.14 trillion or grew by 0.6 percent compared to the same period last year. The profit was generated from local income that has grown by 11.46 percent to Rp25.75 trillion. “The profit is growing but lower than last year,” the President Director of PT Bank BRI told a press conference of financial performance exposure of Q1 in 2016 at BRI Headquarters, Thursday, April 28, 2016.
According to him, many of factors have contributed to the decrease in profit, mainly the requirement for banks to lower their interest rates which is important to improve competitiveness in ASEAN. Lower interest rates has resulted in reduced bank’s profits.
However, Asmawi said interest income still contributes the most to the bank’s revenue. As much as 80 percent of total revenue had came from interest, rose from Rp20.08 trillion in the first quarter last year to Rp21.84 trillion or grew by 0.09 percent. Non-interest income was Rp3.91 trillion or grew by 29.55 percent.
During the first quarter of 2016, loans that was channeled reached Rp561.11 trillion or grew by 18.65 percent. Deposits also grew by 7.5 percent or rose Rp44 trillion. BRI still has the largest market share, dominating 30.51 percent of third party funds.
BRI’s assets grew 5.2 percent to Rp832 trillion. “BRI still has the largest assets and largest [figure] of loan channeling,” Asmawi said.
According to Asmawi, BRI’s assets have grown followed by growth in loans to assets ratio. Loan growth was 18.6 percent and asset growth was 6.52 percent. Meaning that the increase in the bank’s productive assets is higher than non-productive assets, he said. Productive assets ratio is higher compared to last year. “Bank BRI is optimistic about facing 2016,” he said.
BRI’s Finance Director Haru Koesmahargyo added that BRI still appreciates the profit growth despite the lower figure. BRI continues to expand the scope of loans. The biggest growth seen by the bank was in small business sector particularly people’s business loan (KUR) that grew over Rp20 trillion.
