TEMPO.CO, Bengkulu-Heavy rains in the last few days has caused a landslide at a mining location of geothermal site in Lebong, Bengkulu on Thursday, April 28 April 2016.
This incident which was occurred at 3am local time has killed one person, injured four, and buried another four people.
"Along with TNI [National Armed Forces], PMI [Indonesian Red Cross] and Basarnas [National Search and Rescue Agency], we are currently searching for the four missing victims," said Edi Samudera, Logistic Head of Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Lebong on Thursday, April 28, 2016.
Edi said most of the victims were miners of the geothermal site. The road access in Lebong and Curup heading to the location is shut by a heavy equipemnt crossing the way; hampering the evacuation team in conducting the search, he added.
His agency cannot confirm yet if the landslide was due to the mining activity near the residence. "We’re still focusing on the search of the victims, for the time being we identified the cause of the landslide is the heavy rains," Edi said.
