TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-Toshiba Corporation won the bid to supply a steam and turbine generators (STG) for the ultra-super critical coal power plant in Banten. The power plant's construction is underway, and once it is ready it would be used by state power company PT PLN.

The order comes from Sumitomo Corporation, the consortium leader with the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the power plant's construction. The consortium comprises of Sumitomo Corporation; Black & Veatch International Company, a U.S.-based engineering firm; and PT Satyamitra Surya Perkasa (SSP), a local civil engineering company.

Toshiba will start shipping the STGs on January 2018.

The STG will be installed during the expansion of Lontar coal power plant in Banten. The plant has a current capacity of 945 megawatts (MW). The addition of a 315MW STG by Toshiba will increase the total capacity to 1,260MW. The plant is scheduled to start commercial operation in 2019.

Takao Konishi, general manager of thermal & hydro power systems & services div. energy systems & solutions company at Toshiba Corporation, said it is a great honor for the company to procure the STG.

"Toshiba has been contributing to Indonesia’s electricity supply for over 40 years through various energy solutions. As Indonesia faces rapid urbanization, Toshiba will continue to respond effectively to the country’s growing energy demand," he said in a press release on Wednesday, April 13.
