TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-Secretary General of Indonesia National Air Carriers Association (INACA) Teuku Burhanudin predicts that the demand for air transportation for this year’s Eid exodus will rise, which is prompted by a better economic condition than last year’s.
“Last year’s economy was slow. Now it is starting to improve,” Teuku said Monday, April 11, 2016. The increase in Regional Minimum Wage and long holiday also affect the demand for air transportation.
Last year, airlines were only allowed to open extra flights two months prior to Eid. Due to government’s notification last week, Teuku can yet to mention the amount of the increase.
“The government wants those extra flights to be submitted earlier for better planning and preparation,” said Teuku. INACA will be preparing armadas for the extra flights in May.
Previously, Transportation Minister Ignasius Jonan has set land, air, and train transport period for Eid exodus in 2016 to start from June 24 – July 17, while sea transport period will start from June 18 – 24 July.
