TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - For those who crave traditional food, visiting Solo, Surakarta, is a must this weekend. Various traditional Solo signature dishes are served at the Solo Indonesia Culinary Festival held at Vastenburg fort yard on April 7-10, 2016.
Several legendary food stalls in Solo are participating, including Thengkleng Klewer Bu Edi, Sate Kere Yu Rebi and Rawon Penjara.
Visitors can also taste other traditional food, such as gudeg ceker (jackfruit stewed in coconut milk with chicken legs),nasi liwet (rice dish cooked in coconut milk) and cabuk rambak (slices of rice cake with sesame sauce mixed with candlenut and grated coconut).
“We invited traditional food vendors to this event,” festival organizing committee chief Daryono said on Saturday, April 9, 2016.
The traditional food vendors are competing with restaurant and hotel chefs to serve the traditional dishes.
“There are 110 stalls ready to serve visitors,” Daryono said, adding that 40 percent of the stalls were occupied by small traditional food vendors, and 60 percent of them were occupied by hotels, restaurants and catering companies.
In addition to serving dishes, the festival also showcases traditional cooking equipment, such as pawon (traditional stove), traditional pots and traditional rice mortars, as well as how to use them.
