TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung said that Jakarta and Surabaya would become pilot cities in terms of ease of doing business and the World Bank would conduct the survey in Indonesia this month.
“If Jakarta and Surabaya work well, the two cities will be made as models for other regions,” Pramono said at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Friday, April 8, 2016.
Pramono added that President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo wanted to change budget planning and utilization at the regional level. In the context of ease of doing business, according to Pramono, a number of deregulations had been initiated at the central government level and 11 deregulations at the regional government level.
He hopes that Indonesia’s rank in the ease of doing business category would improve to somewhere between 40 and 50.
Surabaya Mayor Tri Rismaharini said that she had made efforts to improve ease of doing business in her city. Several inhibiting business permit applications had been made easier to be conducted, such as the business trading license (SIUP) and trading certificate (TDP).
“They can print those licenses by themselves with mobile apps,” Risma said.
Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Franky Sibarani explained that improving the ease of doing business would require a lot of hard works and he added that the biggest challenge was disseminating the program across the country. However, Franky expressed optimism that Indonesia’s rank in ease of doing business would improve with a number of deregulations.
“Based on the evaluation results, there has been a progress. We projected that Indonesia’s ease of doing business would be ranked 53rd,” Franky explained.
