TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia has continued to introduce its halal products to the global market by participating in international expos, such as the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) 2016 held from March 30 to April 2in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
“By participating in the expo, the international community is expected to get familiar with Indonesian halal products,” Fajarini Puntodewi, the trade attaché at the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, said at the Indonesian Pavilion during MIHAS 2016 on Wednesday, March 30, 2016.
Fajarini revealed that Indonesia’s participation was a success since Indonesian halal products managed to book a significant transaction value. Over the last few years, the transaction value and the number of product types attracting consumers had increased.
In 2013, Indonesia’s halal products booked a total transaction value of around RM 1 million or US$250,000. In 2014, the figure doubled to RM 2 million (US$500,000) and increased to RM 2.5 million (US$625,000). In 2016, Fajarini expected the sales figure would reach more than RM 2.5 million.
MAHAS 2016 participants from Indonesia admitted that they gained benefits from the expo. Food producer Sulami Bahar said that participating in the event was a great experience, since he could meet potential buyers from around the world.
“Today, many people visited my stand to see the products. A Chinese business owner wanted to buy my products in a large amount,” Sulami said.
Small and medium enterprises participating in MIHAS 2016 were from West Java, Central Java, Yogyakarta, East Java, Jakarta and Riau.
