TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) speaker Zulkifli Hasan praised Cuba’s healthcare development during Cuban Ambassador Nirsia Castro Guevara’s working visit to Indonesian MPR's office on Thursday, March 31, 2016.
“The healthcare development doesn’t only make the Cuban people healthy, but also improves their life expectancy to 70 years,” Zulkifly said at the Senayan Parliamentary Complex in Jakarta.
Zulkifli added that Cuba’s healthcare development had been acknowledged by the international community.
Ambassador Guevara’s visit to the MPR was to deliver an invitation for the MPR speaker to visit Cuba.
“We hope that the MPR speaker can meet Cuban parliament and government to see the development [in Cuba],” Ambassador Guevara said.
Zulkifli also expressed his admiration to Cuba since the country had managed to go through a commercial, economic and financial embargo imposed by the United States.
“Indonesia and Cuba have a long history of relationship since the era of President Sukarno and President Fidel Castro. We hope that the bilateral relationship between the two countries can last longer. When we visit Cuba, we will make Cuba’s healthcare system as a model for our country's [healthcare system],” Zulkifli said. (*)
