Switzerland, Indonesia Step Up Cooperation in Tourism Industry

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government is planning to step up bilateral cooperation in the tourism industry with Switzerland. Swiss Vice President Doria Leuthart said during a visit to the Coordinating Ministry of Maritime and Resources on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 that Switzerland will develop a tourism school in Indonesia.
"We want to increase the number of tour visits. But we will need ore manpower in the tourism sector. Therefore, we need help from experts, and lecturers from Switzerland to teach us about tourism," said Coordinating Minister for Maritime and Resources Rizal Ramli after meeting with Vice President Doria.
Rizal said that Switzerland has a good reputation in the tourism industry. In addition, Switzerland had helped Indonesia in constructing a tourism school in Indonesia, the Bandung High School of Tourism (STPB).
One of the regions planned to be the location of the tourism school is Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara. "The Swiss government is very interested, Lombok regent is very excited, we have rented a building to recruit students and next year we will provide a 20,000 hectare land," Rizal said.
In addition to the tourism sector, Minister Rizal and Vice President Doria also discussed cooperation opportunities in transportation, and energy.
