TEMPO.CO, Bandung - West Java regional secretary Iwa Karniwa said that Chinese state-owned aerospace manufacturer the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) had expressed interest to invest in the development of Kertajati Aero City, a city integrated with the Kertajati International Airport, in Majalengka, West Java.
“The China-based aircraft manufacturer has mulled to open maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) center at the aircraft,” Iwa said in Bandung on Sunday, March 20, 2016.
Iwa added that COMAC asked the West Java provincial administration to facilitate the investment interest, particularly to ensure the land availability near the Kertajati Airport.
“COMAC wants to ensure the land availability. The first stage needs 43 hectares to accommodate 200 airplanes,” Iwa added.
Iwa revealed that COMAC had calculated the investment and targeted the MRO industry, since the location of Kertajati Airport was more strategic than Singapore and Australia.
“West Java is considered as a potential location. Previously, they planned to build the MRO center in Singapore and Australia.
Iwa explained that COMAC had not revealed the amount of the investment yet. However, Iwa forecasted that the figure could be in trillions of rupiah.
